Hello All,
I am a writer with two spec scripts. I don't have an agent or manager. Does it matter which I sign with first ?

Over the last couple of days I have reached out to colleagues in development to see if I can discuss my scripts and a couple of said that as an unknown writer I should call back once I've optioned an article or a book. I have heard this twice and I am not clear about why the process of getting my work looked at has anything to do with optioning a property that I'm told I would more than likely not be hired to write. I was told that a company would more than likely acquire my option from me and give me a "producer" credit. I do have an author for which I am partnered and am contemplating adapting her work. I am unsure how to proceed with all this information. I want to write and soon direct. I am focused on my writing for now. However I want to move the process of getting my work produced, how do I proceed ?

Ah, Lisa, then you are looking for someone to cover your script, yes? I would ask around, find a reader at a large agency, or one of the smaller coverage firms (Readers Unlimited comes to mind) that have a happy roster of clients.

If you are wanting to bypass that and go to prodcos, try using Virtual Pitch Fest - http://virtualpitchfest.com . I had a script snapped up through that place. I love it!

Hi all,

I'm interested in either joining or starting a writers group that meets weekly or twice monthly, in the LA area (preferably near Studio City), with a small enough group that we can all give and get input and feedback on each of our projects each time we meet. Anybody interested? you can write me at jhonthego@sbcglobal.net. Please put in the header: Writers group.

Hi Lisa!

The first thing I always recommend that you do is to hold a table read. Contact some actors, get them around a table, and let them read the script aloud. This is going to be both enlightening and empowering; you'll "hear" where the script works, and where it needs work. Actors will tell you about the character arcs; they can make some very insightful comments about story, dialogue and character.

Ultimately, you will probably want to pay a story consultant or analyst to review and make remarks; then give yourself ample time to absorb the feedback and apply. Writing is rewriting!!! Best, anne

Hi,

So you have a final script and you want to send it out to be read for the first time, to someone you don't know preferably, but to someone who is capable of decent, unbiased, open criticism. Where is the best place to go, would love to hear your comments. Thank!!! Lisa.

Hi Tressie ~

For script formatting software, I recommend Final Draft. In terms of story development software and workshops, I cannot imagine life without Blake Snyder (Save the Cat!) http://blakesnyder.com Best, anne
